Hull City Council has struck a deal with a consortium of developers to build 4,000 homes in Hull and the East Riding that will boost the trades.
The joint consortium known as ‘KSHP’ consists of housing developers Keepmoat Limited and Strata Homes Limited along with affordable housing provider Home Group Limited and commercial property specialists ‘Priority Space’.
Councillor John Black, Portfolio Holder for Council Infrastructure and responsible for housing, said: “The appointment of this consortium is a key milestone for Hull.
“We are looking forward to working with them in what will be one of the biggest housing regeneration projects the city has seen.
“One of the consortium’s strengths is its approach to delivering local labour and creating apprenticeship opportunities. This is key objective for the council in delivering the aspirations of creating jobs and training outlined in Hull’s 10-year City Plan.”
This newly appointed consortium will deliver one of the city’s largest, most wide-spread and longest housing regeneration programmes, bringing private investment in excess of £500 million to the area over a 13-year period.
The appointment of ‘KSHP’ will provide much needed new homes, employment and training opportunities and inward investment to the city through developing land owned by the Council.
The partnership has a target of delivering 85 per cent local labour and 300 apprenticeship opportunities through the development.
Mark Knight, Managing Director for Keepmoat Homes Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to be part of this major transformational project; we have been committed to the city of Hull for a number of years and are proud to be able to continue this for many years more.
“We know that our consortium can add real value to the already good work being undertaken across the city, by delivering an improved housing offer and assisting with community and economic stimulation and creating more jobs for the city’s residents.”
Andrew Weaver, from Strata Homes Limited, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as citywide partner in the ground breaking project.
“We have very much enjoyed our experience at Amber, Boothferry Park, over the last three years and have found the city of Hull and its people upbeat and receptive to our design led approach.
“We are now keen to prove Strata as a trusted partner and provide a valued contribution in this exciting, new venture.”
